A class action lawsuit has been filed in the Yukon against the Government of Yukon, the Department of Education and the Jack Hulland Elementary School Council of Attendance Area #22.

This action arises from the systemic use of holds, restraints and involuntary seclusion to control students’ behavior at Jack Hulland Elementary School (“Jack Hulland”) beginning in, or about, September, 2002 and to about June, 2022.


Class Member (Government of Yukon action): You are a Class Member of the continuing class action against the Government of Yukon if you were a student of Jack Hulland between January 1, 2007 and June 30, 2022 (the “Class Members”), and you were subjected to a hold, restraint, locked in a room, and/or placed in seclusion.

Class Member (Jack Hulland Elementary School Council): You are a Settlement Class Member of the settled class action against the Jack Hulland Elementary School Council of Area #22 if you were a student of Jack Hulland between January 1, 2002 and June 30, 2022 (the “Settlement Class Members”), and you were subjected to a hold, restraint, locked in a room, and/or placed in seclusion.
