Proposed Settlement Reached
The parties have entered into a settlement that has not yet been approved by the Supreme Court of British Columbia. A hearing will take place on December 4, 2026, at which the Court will decide whether the Settlement is fair and should be approved.
A Birth Alert is a message sent by a child welfare worker to one or more hospitals. The Birth Alert informed the hospital that a person was pregnant and expressed or implied concern that, after the person gave birth, their child might need protection.
If approved, the proposed settlement would provide a minimum of $2,000 in compensation to eligible class members, who were the subject of a Birth Alert. Indigenous class members will receive an additional amount.
